My dog Chance is a 3 year old Doberman/Labrador mix. I was playing with him today and he jumped up onto my bed and jumped off of the side side and spiral fractured his right rear leg. We took him to the vet and were told that the safest and surest way of treating this break was amputation.
My wife and I discussed it, and for rapid healing and quality of life, we decided to have the surgery done. Well, I just picked him up and boy is he drowsy, but he walked out of the vets office with the help of a towel around his mid-section and someone helping to guide him.
He is home now and resting as comfortably as we can make him. I gave him a shot of pain killer and a little water and we’ll see how tonight goes.
I will update this blog more tomorrow.

Thinking of you my sweet granddoggie. A big “THANKS” to Kent Smith and staff at Crossroads Vet Hospital for their great care and love of animals.
Love you sweet boy,
Grandma
Good luck with Chance’s recovery. You will shortly find that life with a Tripaw is pretty easy. You should get a vest to make hoping out of the car (lessen the stress when landing) and learning stairs easier…
Bless you for giving Chance a second chance! We’re sorry to hear about his accident, but we ‘re glad you found the Tripawds community. We look forward to following his progress, please keep us posted.
Best wishes for a complete speedy recovery, As a healthy pup, Chance should adapt well to life on three legs. You say you gave him a “shot of pain killer” – are you actually administering injectable pain killers at home? Or do you mean a liquid medication?
